Kaneohe Yacht Club

The Kaneohe Yacht Club was first established on October 28, 1924 by its original name "Kaneohe Yacht & Boating Club." She became to be known as "Kaneohe Yacht Club," at the present site on December 17, 1955. KYC is the oldest continuous operating yacht club in Hawaii. The club is situated in beautiful Kaneohe Bay, nestled in one of nature's most magnificent and panoramic stretches. The bay is fringed with green trees and coral sand. The waters seep through varying shades of green and blue out to the crested breakers on the reef. Kaneohe Yacht Club maintains a friendly, relaxed boating atmosphere and contributes to improving boating sports, recreation and education in Hawaii.

Established in 1924, the Kaneohe Yacht Club provides a haven in Windward Oahu for Boating enthusiasts and their guests with first-class harbor facilities. Fostering good seamanship, education and an overall spirit of camaraderie and excellence.

Amenities

  • Bar and Dining- Members and their guests enjoy a variety of dining options at Kaneohe Yacht Club. In our open-air Longhouse, members indulge in our Wednesday and Thursday night dinners and Sunday brunches. Dining in the Longhouse or on the Lawn include table side service and breathtaking panoramic views of Kane'ohe Bay and the Ko'olau Mountains. Holidays at KYC are also popular dining events including Mother's Day and Easter buffets, decadent plated Valentine's Day dinner and themed specials for St. Patrick's Day and Cinco de Mayo. Members may also rent out various spaces on the club to host events in the Gazebo, Upper Deck, or Longhouse. Each can accomodate different numbers of guests.
  • Pool and Gazebo- The Club has a full-sized pool for adults and a kiddie pool for the little ones to enjoy. The Gazebo area near the pool offers members an opportunity to reserve tables to host small, casual gatherings. The Gazebo must be reserved in advance to guarantee availability.
  • Tennis Courts- There are two tennis courts on property. The South tennis court has been recently refurbished and has special lines that have been ghosted in to allow for Pickleball use.
  • Sailing Classes-
    • Level 1 Young Novice- Ages 8-10 that are new to sailing. Sailors learn to steer and control the sails, right a capsized boat, tie basic knots, how to read the wind, how to use hand signals on the water, and the basics of rigging and de-rigging. Activities like follow the leader and double-handed tag create a fun environment with games to help build confidence and skills.
    • Level 2 Novice- Ages 9-16 that may have had an introduction to sailing. Sailors learn to skipper a boat back to the club, dock, sail upwind and adjust the sails to the various wind conditions.  Activities will teach an overboard recovery, the basic right of way rules, and will prepare the sailor to be an independent, resourceful sailor who can rig and derig on their own, but also know when to ask for help.
    • Level 3 Intermediate- Sailors will practice the basic rules of sailing and safely maneuver their boats among larger fleets. They will be introduced to a variety of single and double handed boats: O'Pen Skiffs (Bics), El Toros, Lasers and 420's.  Sailors will learn to trim the sails and hike based on wind speed and direction. Racing will be introduced through fun activities. Skippers will be able to sail in winds up to 15 knots to be a proficient Level 3 sailor.
    • Level 4 Intermediate-advanced- Skippers participate in local races and can confidently sail around a course in winds up to 15 knots. Introduction to higher wind skills, race tactics and positive teamwork. Introduction to the 29er skiff and trapeze sailing and the foiling Waszp are encouraged based on the sailor's interest. Begin traveling to larger regattas with the KYC Jr Team. May be eligible for race clinics and guest coaching events.
    • Level 5 Advanced- Some sailors will choose to specialize in one boat; however, the KYC Jr program encourages experience on many boats to build a broad skill base and experience with multiple rigs and hulls. Skippers can sail confidently in winds up to 25 knots in O'pen Skiffs. Can roll-tack a 420. Can skipper and crew a 29er. Skippers will begin to compete at the national and international regattas and place anywhere in the fleet.
    • Level 6 Expert- Sailors who achieve the expert level show leadership among their peers through sharing their sport and supporting their teammates. Able to skillfully sail multiple boats in challenging conditions, know the complex rules of racing, and compete at national and international regattas in the top half of the fleet.

Associate

Associate membership is available to persons 28 to 34 years of age. Privileges include full use of Club facilities and dry mooring.

Electricity

The dock electrical is 120V 15 amp service so is similar to house plug. If you have 30 amp service you will need an adapter and may not be able to run high load systems such as air conditioning.

General Rules

Guests accompanying KYC members are welcome to enjoy thepremises and facilities of the Club and shall be governed by all Club rules.Members must check-in their guests by signing them in at the Front Office.Guests must park on the street if arriving by vehicle. Each guest is allowed amaximum of six times per quarter.

All member owned boats brought onto property must be registered with the Front Office and issued a KYC Sticker. Proof of ownership (registration) and insurance policy with liability coverage must be submitted on a yearly basis. All boats moored at KYC must be moved twice a quarter. The boat movement log must be signed at the Front Office.

All candidates for membership to the Club must complete and submit the official application form, signed by two sponsors who are Senior or Life members in good standing along with an paying an application fee. Applications are only available at the Kaneohe Yacht Club office during normal operating hours and must be picked up by one of the sponsoring members. We are currently at our membership cap and only accepting applications to be put on a waiting list.

Intermediate

Intermediate membership is available to persons 21 to 27 years of age.  Privileges include full use of Club facilities and dry mooring.

Junior

Junior Membership is available to persons 10 to 20 years of age.  Privileges include full use of Club facilities and dry mooring.

Live Aboard

Overboard stays are not permitted at Kaneohe Yacht Club.

Memberships Categories

Military

Service Member classification is designed for active duty personal in the Armed Forces and is limited to four years of membership. Privileges for this category include full use of Club facilities and dry mooring.

Recreational

Regular

Regular Membership is available to persons 21 years of age. Privileges include full use of Club facilities, wet & dry mooring and voting privileges.

Restrooms

There are private restrooms with showers for both men and women near the pool in the Clubhouse.

Security

There are day & night security patrols and a guard at the gated front entrance. Security cameras are also scattered throughout the property.

Vehicle Parking

Members may park on KYC grounds and in the parking lot inside the gate. Guests must use street parking.

Wait List

Any member except Honorary and Non-Resident members may apply for and retain position on wet and dry mooring lists. Only Senior and Life members may be

designated as “active” on the list for wet mooring assignment. There is currently a waiting list for all slips at KYC. To be added to the waitlist, please fill out an application and turn it into the Front Office. The Waterfront Coordinator and/or Mooring Committee will maintain a waiting list for both wet mooring and dry stalls if appropriate space is not immediately available to an applicant. Assignments will be made in accordance with these regulations as space becomes available and are contingent upon the signing of a Kaneohe Yacht Club. Mooring Agreement as well as compliance with the provisions of General Rules, paragraphs B and C. Any member on the Delinquent List for nonpayment of dues and/or fees will be dropped from all waiting lists.
