The Catalina 470 is an extremely practical and well rounded design. It quickly became a favorite of cruisers and liveaboards alike.
Up top, there is an extremely spacious cockpit, featuring double helm stations, a large foldable table, Large primary winches and an electric halyard winch. The cockpit can be completely enclosed with a large connecting dodger and bimini, which are in amazing shape.
This vessel sails extremely well for its class. It's high freeboard makes for a comfortable and dry ride, well suited for the local Hawaiian conditions. Rigging and derigging the boat is a breeze as well, with an electric halyard winch and lazy jacks, setting the main is a cinch. Under sail, the spacious cockpit is extremely comfortable and has plenty of seating, the wide connected dodger and bimini make for ample shade.
Down below, it feels like a much larger boat. Sporting 7.5 feet of head room, the main salon feels expansive. All of the upholstery is in perfect condition and there is plenty of room to entertain. There are 2 bose 151 speakers that provide high quality music to the area.
The Galley is everything you need it to be on the dock and at underway. It's U shape allows the user to lean and lock themselves in while underway and provides lots of storage. The fridge is both top and side loading, and has an adjacent deep freezer. There is a 3 burner propane stove and oven with an exhaust hood.
The Sleeping accommodations include a large master cabin aft with a queen size bed, and a forward "Plan B" berth forward. The Salon table can also be lowered to provide another large berth.
All around, the Catalina 470, and especially this particular vessel, are wonderful and functional boats.
We're sure the next owner of "Pomaika'i" will be served very well by her.
