Rare opportunity to own a monohull sailing vessel with a COI. She just came out of dry dock again this year in 2024 as part of the USCG out of water inspection process. Full engine service completed including coolant and transmission flushes, new alternator installed and new turbo installed along with a new 8D battery bank, thru hulls were cleaned and lubed, chain plates inspected and nuts and bolts replaced, exterior varnish re-done, new mainsail installed and vessel re-bonded. In 2022 she was also dry docked and all standing rigging was replaced, engine panel replaced, mast and boom were dropped and repainted, cabin top was repainted, rudder was dropped and serviced, mast winches were upgraded to self-tailing, new dripless shaft seal and cutlass bearings installed, new freshwater pump, new holding tank, new Garmin instrument panels, new Lewmar hatches installed and the list just goes on.
After a two-year process, including a structural re-build of the vessel during which nearly every structural component of the vessel was re-built and upgraded, vessel obtained a USCG COI of 32 passengers, including crew.
The COI not only ensures that Maile has been re-built and maintained ‘to code’ but allows for more than six-passenger trips. Beyond commercial use, for cruising, the COI would bring a peace of mind in terms of the structural work and maintenance oversight that are part of the COI process, ensuring a degree of maintenance beyond the usual in a recreational vessel. Fiberglass construction, the teak on deck and below adds a special feel and quality that everyone notices and comments on. She is spacious, well-designed and practically laid-out. The Yanmar 75 engine runs beautifully, with a new turbo, 2,200 engine hours and light use since it was installed in 2008.
The large main salon offers a nice galley space and seating area, with a small cabin forward and a large, comfortable stateroom with a full head and shower aft. On deck, she has a center cockpit with comfortable seating and good visibility in all directions. Vessel would be ideally suited for use in Hawaii, S. California, Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, USVI’s or Bahamas. Assistance with transport to your location could be provided. She would be ideal for use for high end, private day trips. She would also be ideal as a cruising vessel. While currently outfitted for day trips, the COI ensures a degree of structural re-build and maintenance not normally found in a used vessel.
Gulfstars were custom-built in small numbers and are well known for their excellent hull design, construction and sleek deck layout; the builders were considered among the best boat builders of their time. She sails well in both light and heavy winds and is designed to sail solo. This vessel is one of the only Gulfstars, and one of the few monohulls, to have undergone the rigorous process in re-building to coast guard standards and codes.
